Bed and Breakfasts offer charm, familiarity and ease, right in your own backyard. It’s the ultimate staycation (a vacation in state using no more than one tank of gas). If you want to get away but time and budget constraints are keeping you close to home, find a nearby bed and breakfast and escape to another person’s pride and joy while all you have to think about is how long to lounge in the Jacuzzi, where to shop and at what time to roll out of your luxurious bed to indulge in a gourmet breakfast prepared by a professional innkeeper. While you might not be getting away to an exotic location, there’s still a way to get out of the house for a night or two without leaving your local region or emptying your pocket book. Enjoy the down time in your own hometown at a local B&B.
Sure, it's fun and glamorous to vacation in a new locale each time, but it's also cumbersome and requires a great deal of planning, and then there are no guarantees. For families, the ease and familiarity of their local region makes packing up the whole family a lot less cumbersome. With people moving at such a fast pace, and everything in flux (including gas prices), it's reassuring to stay local. Many folks have never treated themselves to being tourists in their own area, this could be the golden opportunity to enjoy your own or nearby area’s special amenities and cultural opportunities.
One thing's for sure, if your budget is tight this summer or you have limited time to spend trying to figure out the basics of a new place, it's a lot easier to slip immediately into relaxation mode on a staycation.
Some bed and breakfast will even pay for your gas as an incentive to travel locally and visit their property in your state. The 1853 Inn at Woodhaven in Louisville, Kentucky offers guests traveling within 45 miles of their property a gas credit to help you save money on your getaway and cut down fuel costs due to lengthy travel time. The Candlelight Inn B&B in Ronks, PA offers a $20 gas rebate if you stay for 2 nights to take the sting out of high gas prices. Many other bed and breakfast gas incentives, as well as local’s discounts, are available in our Specials & Deals search.
Comments:
I was wondering what Staycation meant, thank you! One of the local bed and breakfasts in our area offers “locals, families and friends’ discounts” which would be great for my husband and I. With gas prices the way they are, we plan to take one big trip this year, but not two outside the country, so this is a great alternative to carry us through. We need to pack an overnight bag to feel totally “off,” and this provides a great way to get away without the transportation cost. Thanks for the suggestion and wonderful collection of bed and breakfasts!

My husband and I live near the Russian River in California but never seem to make our way there unless we plan a vacation around the river. So this year we are renting a cabin right off the river which forces us to enjoy the natural beauty that we are so fortunate to have in California but take for granted on a regular basis. We are forcing ourselves to take a vacation 30 minutes from home!
